POEM
I Didn't Think I Mattered

On the verge of quitting
I poured everything into what mattered.
But still, I didn't think that I matter the most.
The fear of crippling thoughts
that I wasn't validated seemed so far away
until a chance encounter of words
that I frequently spoke to my students that each of you matter.
Inspiring to say you are valuable,
but now I know today
that I am valued the most
when I didn't think that I mattered today.

Precious Nicole Epilepsy Journey

Linda Kay's Book of Poetry was inspired by my Daughter Precious Nicole Epilepsy Journey

Everything your heart desires

As a young child, I was bold and tenacious; I held a tight hold to my dreams while looking up into the clouds one day, I said, "I will attend a major university, I will be an author, and all my dreams will come true." The children and adults chuckled at my words. I started writing to become an author when I was directed to my elementary school library in the fifth grade by my teacher. As I approached the library, I was overwhelmed at all the books that were in there. I said, "I am going to read all of them." Every day I would check out several books. One day the Librarian said, "You will be an author one day." I smiled and said, "Yes, I will." I read every book in that library and left proof by making sure that I signed each book. Years later, I was at a PTA meeting, and they were giving away the library books. My nieces and nephews came up to me and said, "Auntie Linda, your name is in all of these books." I said, "Yes, they are." I was so happy that I had left my signature in all those books. The Glory goes to God.
